Training Reviews - Weeks 19 & 20

My plan to race myself in to form relies on me doing races (or at least Parkruns). I put two fast runs in - sort of. The second in the Krunce hill race series, I ran much better than the first one, but it is still a hill race so the pace was outside 9min / mile. And the other was the North of Scotland 400m Hurdles Champs, which was over in 86.26 (terrible) seconds. Neither was helped by the broken rib I got from a stupid slow-motion bike crash. Neither really does anything towards racing myself in to shape.  I also did my first ever criterium on the bike. I was in the race for about 3 seconds, and by the first corner I was so far off the back that I was no longer getting the draft from the pack. By lap 3 the leaders lapped me. It was still good fun though. In terms of the rest. I am still being ridiculously lazy about the minor sessions. And I am coming up about a 5k run short of plan every week. I don't have much racing planned for June, but there are options in there if I can mak...

Training Review weeks - 17 & 18

The numbers this fortnight are a bit of a jumble. I missed a couple sessions to fit around races. Basketball is taking a chunk out of my midweek but is hugely benefitting my mobility and is reducing the problems with my hips and back.  I have done a couple of races in this fortnight. I expected to run a minute or so slower on each run but to take a chunk off my bike time and finish in about the same time and place as normal. I did run a minute or so (closer to 2) slower on each run, but I also rode 4 minutes slower. My own fault, I didn't check the bike properly after rebuilding it and the rear brakes were misaligned. On the climbs I just thought the pace was because I was empty from our walking adventure the previous day but on the descents it became more obvious that something was wrong as I never had to touch the brakes, and was having to pedal down the steepest descents. I am a bit disappoi...
